1. Planned and Visible Sketch of System Layout for Rainwater Harvesting.
2. List of Components That is Used for Proposed Solution of Rainwater Harvesting.
a. PVC pipes
b. Filter media
c. Storage tank
d. Pumping system
e. Overhead tank
3. Explanation of the Components Selection and Their Justification in Position of Order PVC Pipes.
PVC pipes are used for transferring the rain water from terrace to the filtering media and we use PVC because it’s cheaper than iron and other pipes. They a kept in a sloped position so as to transfer the water more effectively.
Filter media
Filter media is the main component of rainwater harvesting system. Filtering media consist of three layers’ equal layers of sand, aggregate and pebbles. Filter media is formed underground as to safe area and also to have a good filtration.
Storage tank
Storage tank collects the filtered water it is also present in underground itself for easy transportation and it directs the water to pumping system from which water is transferred to the over head tank.
Pumping system
Pumping system helps to pump up the filtered water to the over head tank.
Over head tank
Over head tank which is already designed for collecting the bore well water is also used to collect the filtered rain water.
4. Pump System that is Going to be Used and its Arrangement:
In rainwater harvesting system most commonly centrifugal pump is used to transfer the water. One pump is enough to get the filtered rainwater to the overhead tank. The power of the pump will vary accordingly to the height of the building and the discharge of the liquid. The system can be also done by using same pump for both bore well and rainwater harvesting system but in some cases it is not possible.
The pump is placed after the storage tank and it can be automated, semi automated or manually controlled. Automated pump will turn on automatically once the water reaches the max level then it will pump out the water from the storage media. Semi automated pump is same as like the automated pump but the process of turning the pump off should be done manually. The selection of the pump is based on the cost of the project and the best among the three is the automated pump according to the user reviews.
5. Calculation of Power:
Formula for calculating the power of pump
HP= q×H/2250
Where
q= discharge in lpm
H= head in m
2250= efficiency value
Using this simple formula, the power of the pump can be found as follows:
Let H=25 M
And q=60 lpm
The power HP= 25×60/2250
                   =0.66~0.7hp
Note that this calculation is only suitable for underground sumps and not for bore wells or deep wells
